In our new column Meet a local we present interesting individuals from different professional fields living in Belgrade. The idea is to get to know some locals and their favorite neighborhoods and venues in the city.

Please introduce yourself to our readers:

Barbara Garčević, passionate and dedicated promoter of arts and culture in Belgrade, owner of Preventer agency.

Has there been a new project lately?

Lately, there is no day without an exciting project. And lately, I’m more focused on visual arts, and the promotion of interesting art exhibitions and artists. ‘’Identities’’ exhibition in Arte gallery (as a part of the project Collector as curator and selector) was last two months in my daily agenda, as well as the beautiful exhibition of Milena JNK in Modern Gallery Belgrade in Dorćol.

I am also very excited about the collaboration with Mira Brtka Foundation and the fact that the retrospective exhibition, that was shown last year at Belgrade City Museum has finally started to be exhibited across our border. At the moment it is in Budapest at Q Contemporary Museum.

And one also very special project that I am happy to be part of is the SUPERHERO.RS platform by Mastercard and Nurdor. The third fashion collection Superhero is going to be launched in December, and another great thing about it is – if you order any item on superhero.rs, you become a true superhero because all the money goes to the Nurdor organization that helps children with cancer.

What do you like about Belgrade?

The fact is that Belgrade is friendly, open, dynamic, exciting, always charming, and never boring. I also like the fact that is so lively even on Mondays regardless of the season of the year, it has awesome bars, clubs, and of course, friendly people. I enjoy walking through Belgrade streets and spotting true gems in old Belgrade buildings, there are quite a lot if you pay attention. I constantly take photos of it and have a cool collection on my Instagram.

Where do you like to go out?

Club Dim is my favorite place to go out. But for the last 10 years on the list of my favorite places to go out in Belgrade are Tezga bar, KC Grad, 20/44, Drugstore, Strogi centar… Depends on the offer or my mood. I also love to spend a lot of time in record stores, especially in Cetinjska street (Yugovinyl and AntiShop)

Name 3 of your favorite restaurants in the city.

If I think of the restaurants where I eat most often I would say –  Istok, Moon and Morava (in Palilula market)

But I also love to go sometimes to Klub književnika.. as well as  Proleće and Grmeč.

Where do you drink coffee?

Mostly at home, sometimes in Vjeran pas and Tezga

Where do you spend your leisure time?

Vjeran Pas, Tezga, and Obilazak by Lozna.

Name your 3 favorite locations in Belgrade and justify your choice.

Tašmajdan – because I live there, because there’s a pool during summer, ice skating during winter, and because there’s one of the most beautiful parks in the city.

Dorćol – because it’s still the most beautiful part of Belgrade

Novi Beograd – because of the brutalist architecture and rivers
