The Collection of foreign prints and drawings, although small in size, offers the possibility of partial following of certain important authors or characteristic phenomena in the 20th century art.
From the first half of the century, represented in the Collection are creations of authors like Jacques Villon and Albert Gleizes, while the map “I percusori dell avanguardia: Surrealisti” joins the works of artists like Marcel Duchamp, René Magritte, André Masson, Man Ray, developed in the later periods of their creativity. In the second part of the century, the phenomena like accentuating substance, gesture and sign can be observed in the works of Antoni Tàpies, Hans Hartung, Lucio Fontana, Adolf Gottlieb. The complex of American and British version of Pop art is represented in the prints of Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Richard Hamilton, David Hockney. Explorations of constructive and geometrical forms, ranging from plastic concretism, Op art, Minimal art, geometrism, all the way to exploration of pure plastic forms, can be followed in the works of artists like Josef Albers, Max Bill, Victor Vasarely, Piero Dorazio or Frank Stella. The Collection also contains graphics of authors like Erró, Georges Braque, Salvador Dalí, or Joan Miró’s frieze imprinted on silk.
One of the characteristics of this Collection, comprised of about three hundred and fifty works, is reflected in the manner of acquisition of graphic prints and drawings, also, among other ways, through purchase of works from galleries and publishing houses like Denise René and Maeght from Paris, Sala Gaspar from Barcelona, Schwarz from Milan, Marlborough from Rome, Alecto from London, Galleria del Deposito from Genoa, Tatyana Grossman from New York, or from the Ljubljana International Biennial of Graphic Arts.
