Flying pearls that defy gravity, seven tiles of wisdom, journeys through the past and future, explorations of the bloodstream and nervous system, cell and archaeological expeditions, responsible use of ever-present artificial intelligence, sailing, flying, and diving simulations—these are just some of the hundreds of topics awaiting visitors at Serbia’s most exciting night of science.
The 16th European Researchers’ Night will take place on Friday, September 26, from 16:00 to 22:00, in 16 cities across the country.
Under the slogan In Tune with Science, this year’s edition will be held in Belgrade, Niš, Novi Sad, Kragujevac, Čačak, Kruševac, Subotica, Smederevo, Pirot, Leskovac, Ranovac, Zaječar, Svilajnac, Kikinda, Šabac, and Inđija.
The event will introduce visitors to the latest scientific knowledge, showcase fascinating discoveries, and guide them through interactive workshops that reveal how science is part of our everyday lives.
From the youngest curious minds to adults eager to rediscover their inner child, everyone will have the chance to get in tune with science—to talk to researchers, peek into their laboratories, and even try solving some scientific puzzles themselves.
As always, all programs will be free of charge.
In Belgrade, the event will take place at several locations: the EU Info Centre (where the opening ceremony will be held with the support of the Delegation of the EU to Serbia), the Centre for the Promotion of Science, the Museum of Science and Technology, the Ethnographic and Natural History Museums, the Belgrade Zoo, the Czech House, and BIG Fashion Mall.
In Niš, programs will be held at the Center for Professional Development and its Science Club and Science Park, the National Museum, University Library “Nikola Tesla,” EU Info Centre, American Corner, and Delta Planet Mall.
In Šabac, visitors can enjoy science in the Pedestrian Zone, at the Cultural Center courtyard, and Primary School “Vuk Karadžić.” Čačak will host activities in the Science Park, the promenade near SC “Mladost,” and the Start-Up Center.
Svilajnac will welcome science lovers at Stevan Sinđelić Square and the Cultural Center, while in Leskovac, events will take place at the City Square, Science Club, and Cultural Center. Smederevo will feature programs at the Science Club of the Regional Center and the City Museum.
In Novi Sad, events will be held at BIG Mall, OPENS, and the Science Club at Cultural Station Svilara. Kikinda will host activities at the Science Club, Kragujevac, at BIG Fashion Mall, Kruševac at Pioneers’ Park, Pirot in front of the Cultural Center, and Ranovac at the City Square in Petrovac na Mlavi.
In Zaječar, several classrooms at the Zaječar Gymnasium will be open to curious minds of all ages, while in Subotica the Higher Technical School will host programs. In Inđija, Vojvode Stepe Street will be lit up with science.
“We invite you to once again be part of the European Researchers’ Night! For the 16th time in Serbia, we are opening the doors of science—come explore, discover, and have fun with us, because science is right here, waiting for you!” – said Dr. Jasmina Nestorović Živković, coordinator of the ReFocus FLOW project.
As a warm-up for the event, promotional activities will start on September 15 in some cities, while the European Researchers’ Week will begin on September 22.
The European Researchers’ Night has been organized for 20 years with the support of the European Commission, across the continent, to promote researchers and science in engaging ways, bringing their work closer to the public, and inspiring young people to pursue research careers.
This year, the event will be held in 460 cities across 25 countries.
In Serbia, over the past 15 years, 41 cities have taken part in this scientific adventure. In 2025, it will be implemented through two projects: ReFocuS FLOW and TRAILS.
- The ReFocuS FLOW (Road to Friday of Science FLOWs) project is coordinated by the Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković” of the University of Belgrade, in partnership with the Centre for the Promotion of Science, the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Niš, and the University of Kragujevac.
- The TRAILS (TRAIN RESPONSIBLE AI LEARNING SOCIETY) project is coordinated by the Creative Educational Center, in partnership with the Science and Technology Park Novi Sad, the Association of Science Communicators NAUKOM, the Higher Technical School of Professional Studies in Subotica, and the Centre for the Promotion of Science.
Both projects are funded by the Horizon Europe program—the EU’s largest framework for research and innovation—under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions sub-programme.
