Sam Paganini Bio
013 was undoubtedly a highly successful and stellar year for Sam. With the release of the âBody To Body Epâ on the legendary Cocoon Recordings and the âBlack Leather Epâ on Drumcode, both reaching the highest spot on Beatportâs Techno Chart, his outstanding musical journey has achieved a great renown on the Underground circuit as well as on the Mainstream channels.
The track âPolyesterâ (which along with âFire In My Armsâ is one of the smashing hits from the âBody To Body Epâ) has been featured both on the playlists of many Underground DJs and on those of some of the biggest names in the industry like Moby, becoming Beatportâs âTechno Track Of 2013â.
On a similar note, the track âChocolateâ from the âBlack Leather Epâ, which has further sealed the artistic bond with Adam Beyer and Drumcode, whom Sam has signed 3 EP’s over the last 2 years with was on Beatport Techno Chartâs Top Spot for more than 4 weeks.
Since 1996, a landmark year for him thanks to the worldwide success of his track âZoeâ as Paganini Traxx, Samâs stylistic experimentation has always gone strong, leading him to collaborate and release his music on several record labels until Techno pioneer Richie Hawtin welcomed him to his groundbreaking Plus8 imprint in 2011 with the âCobra Epâ.
To date, Sam proudly stands out as the only Italian artist to release under his own name on 3 acclaimed labels like Plus8, Cocoon and Drumcode.
Besides his studio work and production time, Samâs DJ career is steadily on the rise: his sets are characterized by powerful grooves and have been recently described as âSexy Groovy Dark Technoâ, which literally speaks volumes on what to expect from his performances.
He has taken the stage at legendary clubs such as Berghain (Berlin) and Cielo (New York), which shows how diverse and truly knowledgeable his crowds are.
Berlin-based duo Booka Shade (Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier) have carved out a reputation as one of the most celebrated electronic acts to come out of Europe over the past two decades.
In 2002 Booka Shade formed dance label Get Physical with M.A.N.D.Y, Thomas ‘DJ T’ Koch and production partner Peter Hayo, and became one of the worldâs key dance labels. They released their first three albums on Get Physical, âMementoâ (2004), âMovementsâ (2006) & âThe Sun & The Neon Lightâ (2008).
Their next album, ‘More!’ (2010), was released on Cooperative Music. Tracks such as âNight Fallsâ, âMandarine Girlâ and âIn White Roomsâ seem to have become crossover hits and arguably their biggest hit âBody Languageâ sung by festival goers world wide and was also used as a sample by will.i.am in âGet Your Moneyâ in 2007.
They released their fifth studio album âEveâ in November 2013, through Embassy One/Blaufield Music. Recorded in Manchesterâs acclaimed Eve Studios, it was finished in their home town of Berlin and included the popular singles âLove Incâ, Love Drug (feat Fritz Helder) and Crossing Borders (feat. Fritz Kalkbrenner).
Booka Shade has earned a huge live reputation with their substantial and innovative live shows and in 2010 were named by Resident Advisor as one of the worldâs Top 5 live acts. In the last couple of years they have opened for Depeche Mode at the first show of their world tour in Tel Aviv, headlined the Gobi Stage at Coachella and played to sold out audiences across Europe. In 2012, they were hand picked by BBC Radio 1âs Pete Tong to mix his annual âAll Gone Ibizaâ compilation. Recent DJ appearances include the Space Ibiza opening party, and a range of U.S festivals including the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas.
The Berlin pair have become much sought after remixers, lending their magic touch to artists such as Gorgon City, Depeche Mode, Moby, Yello, Hot Chip, Kings Of Leon, Tiga, and The Knife.
Booka Shadeâs music absorbs influences from all genres: classical, rock, jazz, film score, which has arguably contributed to their wide appeal. Their impressive contribution to electronic music across so many genres since 2004’s âMementoâ has seen them become dance music pioneers.
Underneath a new moniker Booka Shade presents: Yaruba, the two producers have created an EP that appeals to their underground club roots. They explain, âYARUBA represents the dark, clubby side of Booka Shade. Black Cow is a track we´ve been playing with great response in our DJ sets since last September, and kept refining the sound design”
20 years, dozens of EPâs and 6 albums later, Booka Shade have become more than a household name, synonymous with the spirit which drives electronic music and sets a precedent to which electronic music is still judged by today. They continue to pioneer and redefine the boundaries of music in their Berlin studio whilst touring their live production internationally.
