Exhibition: “Women Designers: (Re)Designing the World”
Opening: Thursday, July 10 at 7:30 PM
Venue: Cervantes Institute Gallery, Belgrade
The exhibition “Women Designers: (Re)Designing the World” opens on Thursday, July 10, at 7:30 PM at the gallery of the Cervantes Institute in Belgrade.
The original exhibition presents works by twelve prominent contemporary designers from different regions of Spain. As curator Gloria Ruiz explains, the prefix “re” in the title refers to repetition and rethinking—to designing the world anew.
“The subject of this (re)design is the world we live in—a world that is rapidly changing and in need of new solutions. We must go beyond simply improving the existing—we need to create a new reality,” says Ruiz. She emphasizes that design should be understood as an activity that permeates all material and mental manifestations we use for human well-being and development.
This traveling exhibition, which has already been shown in cities such as Milan, Prague, and Bucharest, features the following designers:
Helena Rohner, Verónica Fuerte, Marta Ayala, Julia Esqué, Raquel Buj, Amalia Puga, Ingrid Picanyol, Miriam Miguel, Silvia Ferpal, Cristina Omazurementería, Inés Sistiaga, and Elie Gutiérrez.
“Their worldview and the values they represent make their creative practices contribute to building a more sustainable and inclusive reality. These are designers who push the boundaries of creativity by blending knowledge, techniques, and materials,” adds Ruiz.
The exhibited works—ranging from jewelry and decorative objects to furniture—lie at the intersection of design and craftsmanship. The materials, processes, and artistic narratives behind them aim to create a more humane and dedicated world.

“These designers have embraced contemporary technologies while applying their own knowledge and experimenting with processes and materials. In this way, we can say they have created a kind of digital craftsmanship,” Ruiz explains.
Talk: “Design with Purpose: Shaping the World Around Us”
Before the exhibition opening, a public talk titled “Design with Purpose: How We Shape the World Around Us” will be held at 6 PM in the Main Hall of the Cervantes Institute. The discussion will feature artists Helena Rohner (Spain) and Iva Brkić Walter (Serbia), who will share their journeys, creative challenges, and views on staying true to oneself in the business world. They will also reflect on the importance of developing a personal brand, without losing one’s soul.
