The promotion of printed photography and photobooks as art objects

The second Photo Fair, organized by the photo-collective Belgrade Raw will be held at the Artget gallery of the Belgrade Cultural Center, May 9-13.

The focus of the fair will be on photography as a printed thing as well as photobooks as art objects. These topics will be covered through various lectures and workshops.

Furthering the Ad Hoc Photobook Library project started at last years Photo Fair, we enable the public to view an ample selection of books, gathered from various private and public collections (notably the Goethe Cultural Centre Library and its collection of german photobooks). During the three days (May 10-12) of the library, we will organize lectures on specific topics, presented through the relevant selections of photobooks. This will provide the insights into the context, approach and general values of certain periods or groups of authors, with the opportunity to handhold the books on-site.

Various lectures will be devoted to publishing in photography: Jaka Babnik will presented the Rostfrei Publishing from Slovenia; Uglješa Vrcelj will present the Superdot printshop and talk on various aspects of photo printing; Nemanja Knežević will present a selection of local and regional photo-zine production.

On Monday, May 13, we will organize a panel discussion on photography and graphic design, focusing on the position of photography in the context of design and their mutual influences in modern practices.

Along with the fair, the official 2013 exhibition season of Artget will open. The curators of the Raw Season are the members of Belgrade Raw collective. The first exhibition, which opens on May 9 is the inaugural presentation of new members of the Belgrade Raw collective. Their photographs will show their angle of view on Belgrade.
