One of the most distinctive selectors in contemporary electronic music, Lena Willikens returns to Karmakoma on November 14, this time joining forces with Tsola of Terrible Twos.
Lena Willikens has built a reputation far beyond her associations with Salon des Amateurs, Cómeme, Dekmantel and NTS. A DJ, producer and curator from Düsseldorf, she is known for her adventurous, deeply eclectic approach to electronic music — moving freely between experimental electronics, industrial, electro, techno, new wave, psychedelic sounds and obscure dance-floor gems.
Her sets are less about predictable genre boundaries and more about creating an atmosphere where unexpected sounds can coexist. As a long-standing resident of Düsseldorf’s legendary Salon des Amateurs, Lena has become closely associated with a particular kind of open-ended, leftfield club culture: curious, strange, hypnotic and completely resistant to easy categorisation.
Her work also extends beyond the club. Through projects such as Sentimental Flare, her radio work and numerous collaborations, she has consistently explored the space between experimental music, contemporary art and adventurous DJ culture. Her NTS shows have become another important outlet for this musical curiosity, connecting obscure discoveries with a wider international audience.
And then there are the marathon sessions — including the recently recorded six-hour B2B with her long-term partner Vladimir, the kind of recording that feels less like a DJ set and more like an archaeological excavation of sounds.
