The 21st edition of Belgrade International Architecture Week – BINA 2026 will take place from April 30 to May 30 in Belgrade, organized by the Association of Belgrade Architects and the Cultural Centre of Belgrade. Recognized as one of the region’s most important architecture platforms, BINA once again transforms the Serbian capital into a month-long meeting point for architects, urban thinkers, students, designers, and the wider public.
Central Theme: Architecture – Public Functions – Realizations
This year’s central theme, “Architecture – Public Functions – Realizations,” focuses on exemplary projects that have contributed to social progress and established high standards in the typology of public buildings and public space. Inspired by the values of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award, the program emphasizes sustainable reconstruction, inclusivity, and social impact, favoring transformation of existing structures over new construction.
Major Exhibitions Across Belgrade
The central exhibition, “Radiance – Revealed Manifestations,” will be presented at the Fine Arts Gallery of the Cultural Centre of Belgrade, showcasing recent award-winning public buildings and urban ensembles by leading regional architects. It will be accompanied by guided tours, lectures, and public talks with architects, competition organizers, and citizens.
At the Artget Gallery, curator Dunja Brkić presents “Transient Landscapes – New Belgrade Through the Lens of Raca Bulatović,” dedicated to the photographer who documented the construction of New Belgrade from the 1950s to the late 1970s. The exhibition offers a rare visual archive of modernist landmarks such as the Hotel Jugoslavija, Museum of Contemporary Art Belgrade, Sava Center, and the former Central Committee building.
Another standout project is “Unwinding Materiality,” created by architects Davor Ereš, Jelena Mitrović, and Igor Pantić, together with collaborators in textile design and kinetics. Following their appearance at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2025, the exhibition continues to investigate public space through materiality, ephemerality, and collective action. Hosted in the iconic BINA Cabin Pavilion, it will also feature workshops for children and young people.
International Architecture and Housing Programs
BINA 2026 also includes the international exhibition Piranesi Award 2025, presenting fifty realized buildings and student projects selected from eleven European countries, including Austria, Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, Serbia, and others.
The biennial exhibition Housing 25 returns for the sixth time, presenting innovative solutions in contemporary residential architecture from across the world, organized by the University of Niš – Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture.
Walks, Excursions and Urban Exploration
Architectural walks remain one of BINA’s most popular programs. This year, audiences can join the guided route “From Branko’s Bridge to Dorćol,” exploring key layers of Belgrade’s urban history. Additional excursions lead visitors to the Senjski Rudnik Coal Mining Museum and the Hisar Fortress.
Education, Lectures and European Networks
The festival continues its educational mission through seminars for practicing architects, presentations of new materials and technologies, and events hosted at the Palace of Science, Serbia’s leading new science center.
Through the international LINA Platform program LINA 2.0, BINA addresses the topic “Urban Transition: Hopes and Fears,” examining ecological risks, global instability, and rising anxiety in contemporary cities.
Other highlights include:
- Urban Laboratory (Serbia–Switzerland) with architects and urbanists from both countries
- Urban Utopias / Belgrade Urban Oases, focused on transforming neglected urban land
- Presentation of the book Regionalism in Serbian Modern Architecture by Igor Marić
- Lecture Les Cités Obscures by renowned intellectual Benoît Peeters
- Discussions on the European Prize for Public Space and architecture communication strategies in Europe.
Architecture for the Public
During the festival, the traditional Association of Belgrade Architects Award for Architectural Event of the Year will also be presented.
Supported by the Creative Europe programme, Goethe-Institut Serbia, Austrian Cultural Forum Belgrade, French Institute in Serbia, the Embassy of Switzerland in Belgrade, and the Polish Institute in Belgrade, BINA 2026 once again confirms Belgrade’s place on the international architecture map.
